Worst Car Wins!

Worst Car Wins! is a new Online Race for Gran Turismo 3 addicts, but with an unusual style. Most OLRs are of the form - pick a car (usually from a set list), drive as fast as you can. wCw is not.

The Cars:


Pick ANY car from within the game. Any car at all. This competition even allows hybrid cars, for those that know how to make them.

The Setting:


Midfield

The competition arena is the Midfield track. Specifically, the race you must enter is GT/Simulation Mode, Beginner's League, Sunday Cup, Midfield. This means it's you against a whole bunch of really tragic AI cars - the field usually being made up from a Cuore/Mira, VW Beetle, Alto Works, Yaris 1.3, Yaris 1.5, Civic VTi and CR-X del Sol.

The Purpose:


Guide your chosen car around the circuit and win! Oh, but you have to do it as slowly as you possibly can. If you finish 2nd or worse, the time isn't valid. Only a win will do.

The Rules:


There are none. You can cut corners, smash into barriers, attempt serious injury, whatever. Since gaining time is of no help to you, I don't care. You can qualify if you like - you can even qualify on softer tyres, then switch back to normals for the race if you're price concious - if you think that getting to the front then blocking is the key.

Time Submissions:


I accept time submissions at the GT3Times.com forums, or the GTN forums, if you are a member there. Or you can e-mail them to me. Included in the submissions must be your name, the car name, the car's power and weight, the total cost of the car (including new price and all parts at list prices. And oil change) and your overall time.

The Proof:


Because of the unusual nature of the contest, proof is not normally required. However, as with all things, you ought to save a replay in case you break a record for your particular car. Besides which, these replays are generally highly funny.

The Categories:


There are four categories for this contest. The overall slowest time is the obvious one. However, there are also categories for the lowest power-to-weight ratio car and the lowest priced car. These categories are currently lead by people using the absolute lowest PWR (Mini Cooper 1.3i) and priced (Daihatsu Cuore/Mira) cars, so the only way to get to the top of them is to drive the same car, but even slower...
Cheapo Cuore No Poke Mini

The last category is the hybrid class. You may use any hybridised player car you wish, but must again submit the power, weight and full price including donor parts as they would be priced for the vehicle they were intended for. No hybrid entries can make it into the other three categories, but I will flag the lowest PWR car, lowest cost car and slowest overall time car within the hybrid class.

13th January '03: COMING SOON! wCw2...
10th January '03: Oh no... Womble - despite having to compete for GTF in the 9B2 - still finds time to paste the Worst Car Wins drivers... Now he's taken the overall title with a 7'39.952 - the first 7'30+ time. Heck!
8th January '03: Womble does it again, and turns in a 5'06 in a Mini. This time it's oil-free, so rockets to the top of the PWR charts...
6th January '03: Not much happening recently, but Womble has turned in a 6'15 in the Oreca.
1st January '03: It's been a while since the last update, but hey, Christmas is more important. Bad news though... A new driver, Womble, has taken the contest to extremes, posting 5 minute times for both Cuore and Mini...
CHRISTMAS!: Not much going on, but it's the Christmas break. Only a fool would do GT3 OLRs during Christmas!
14th December '02: A flurry of hybrids from daan sees him take over that chart as well, with times EVEN worse than his leading time. Madness...
11th December '02: Famine posts his first hybrid time - in a V8 NSX - and heads up the charts by a narrow margin.
10th December '02: The first hybrid time! FPT posts a 5'44.736 in a hybrid Acura RS-X. daan later joins the hybrid party with a 900hp Mini and tops these charts too.
9th December '02: In an otherwise slow day one new driver turns up - Frustrated Palm Tree - and posts himself in the top 10 with a 6'31.589 in an NTSC F1 car. Other than that, nothing much happens. Apart from daan taking an Oreca Viper to 7'20.074... :(
8th December '02: Famine goes ahead and posts a 6'50.603, to narrow the gap to daan a little. In a fit of pique he also pilots the Lupo Cup car to an amazingly slow 5'28.764 victory - the slowest of any sub-150hp car to date. A new driver - Ganesh - turns up and posts a 5'12.375 in his very first run with a Lancer Evo7 RS.
7th December '02: A new driver turns up - Max E. - to become only the 3rd driver with a time over 6 minutes, posting a 6'09.117 in a modified Viper GTS. GT3EMPEROR also makes a creditable first effort in the contest. Meanwhile, Famine makes an assault on the low cost and PWR boards, but can only turn up 3rd and 2nd places.
6th December '02: Famine posts the first 6'30+ time - a Mazda RX-7 LM with 6'34.007. Thrasher makes a few runs - most notably with the V8 Vantage - but just fails to make himself the 3rd driver over 6 minutes. However, later on in the day daan posts his 2nd different 6 minute car, following up with a staggering 7'+ time in the XJ220 Race Car of 7'07.911. The man's a machine!
5th December '02: jmr at GTN pushes up the average cost by running a TS020 Road Car at a staggering 2,338,250cr
4th December '02: The hottest day of activity so far sees Thrasher going for the low PWR crown in a stock Mini 1.3i in a none-too-shabby time of 4'06.603. daan, in the lull, makes a horrific lurch for the overall title taking the TVR Speed 12 past the 6 minute mark TWICE, with a 6'27.452 being the worst/best.
3rd December '02: A day low on action. Has everyone given up in the face of the Camaro?
2nd December '02: Doohan goes for the low-budget crown, taking a stock, 11,140 credit Daihatsu Cuore round in juts under 4 minutes. Meanwhile, Famine's day brightens a little with the first time over 5'30, taking a Camaro Race Car round in 5'38.745. As the day ends Thrasher snatches the low-budget crown back again with another stock Cuore, this time taking 4'09.673.
1st December '02: Thrasher gets the challenge rolling with a tough looking 3'46.916 in a low-powered, low cost 1989 MX-5. An hour later, Doohan takes over a minute off him with a 4'50.504, in a slightly quicker (and costlier) Polyphony 001 F1 car. Less than 30 minutes pass before daan nets the very first 5'+ time, with a 5'11.839 in the MR-S. He takes 3 seconds more a few hours later, only for Thrasher to come back with a 5'19.660 in a blazing Pennzoil Skyline.
